TUTORIAL: Painting Fire

More and more often models are coming with "special effects" modeled on them, with the most common of those being fire. Everyone knows what fire looks like, but it can be a bit tricky to paint sometimes. Recently I worked on the Mawpot for my Ogor Mawtribes, and took the opportunity to make a tutorial on how I tackled this hot issue.

Warhammer+ Show Ideas: Beyond Animation

We're now into our second year of Warhammer+ and so far we've had several animations, as well as battle reports, lore videos, and painting videos, but I feel like there are some missed opportunities here. While I'm enjoying the animations, I have a few ideas for other shows that could be hosted on the platform.

REVIEW: Redgrass Games V2 Wet Palette

I recently got my first wet palette ever with the Redgrass Games Everlasting Wet Palette, and after holding off for so long I'm definitely a convert. Well, Redgrass Games was nice enough to send me their new V2 Painter Wet Palette that's now available to check out alongside some other cool add ons, so let's take a look!

Tyler's Tinfoil Hat Time: Globb Glittermaw and Greasus Goldtooth

It's no secret that at the moment the Ogor Mawtribes lack any real special characters. Sure, they have the two Underworlds models, but you can't even buy one of them anymore. While their model line may be lacking, their lore has two prime candidates in the form of Braggoth Varduk and Globb Glittermaw. The second one's name may seem familiar to you if you're a more veteran player; it did to me too, which led me to a debut article style I'm calling; Tyler's Tinfoil Hat Time!

Why You Should Collect and Play: Ogor Mawtribes

With the release of the new Ogor Mawtribes book I decided I would take a new approach at covering it on my Mengel Miniatures. Since I caught the Ogor bug myself with this release and started my own army of them, I figured why not cover the reasons to collect and paint them?

TUTORIAL: Ogor Mawtribes

I've always been a fan of the Ogors, and have a few false starts with them, but with the newest Battletome I've decided to finally take the plunge and do a proper Ogor army! As far as I was concerned there was only one way I was going to paint them, in the colors of nostalgia.

REVIEW: Citadel Tools

While we all love our miniatures, we sometimes forget about the importance of the tools we use to assemble them. Where would our stalwart Space Marines be without the clippers and knives used to put them together? Games Workshop has refreshed their own line of hobby tools to help you accomplish just that, so let's take a look at them!

REVIEW: Sons of Behemat - The Lore

There's more to the Sons of Behemat than just some fancy new rules though, they have fancy new lore too! Being a rather new addition to the setting, there's still tons of room to flesh out this gigantic army, and this new book definitely takes advantage of it. As much of a Death fan as I am, I always love Destruction lore because it's all just so much fun!

REVIEW: Disciples of Tzeentch Battletome 2022

Back in the mists of time of the 1st edition of Age of Sigmar, Disciples of Tzeentch was actually the first god centric book to come out that encompassed all of the mortal and demonic units for said god. Now, in 3rd edition, we're appropriately onto the 3rd version of the Changer of Ways favorite army. So, what's changed in the lore and rules for everyone's favorite technicolored army?

TUTORIAL: Rockgut Troggoth

With the release of the new Contrast colors, I figured it would be a good idea to test them out with a tutorial. A few of the colors seemed perfect for the classic Rockgut Troggoth color scheme and I happened to have a few sitting around unpainted. After a quick test on a spare bit of troggoth it was time for the real deal.

The Magic of Micro Set and Micro Sol

This is a repost of an older article, but with the release of the Horus Heresy and the importance of transfers for all of those shoulder pads, I figured it was worth revisiting! Micro Set and Micro Sol really do make it 1,000,000,000 times easier to apply transfers to all of those rounded surfaces on Space Marines. So without further ado, take it away me from 2016!

REVIEW: The Horus Heresy - Age of Darkness

It's finally here, the new edition of the Horus Heresy and it's first official starter set, Warhammer The Horus Heresy: Age of Darkness! It contains all the glories of the 31st millennium, but this time in plastic. Let's take a look inside the boxset and the rulebook!

Speed Painting with Nighthaunt Gloom and Hexwraith Flame

Back when the Nighthaunt first came out with the launch of 2nd edition, they actually released two new technical paints designed to work specifically with them, Nighthaunt Gloom and Hexwraith Flame. The legendary Chris 'Peachy' Peach had a painting tutorial video shortly after that, showing how to use these on your Nighthaunt models, so I took the opportunity to follow his guide and see how quick and easy it really is. Spoiler, it's very quick and easy!

A Brief History of Mengel's Nighthaunt Collection

If you're not aware, I'm a bit of a Nighthaunt fan. I have almost one of every unit painted, and collectively I have over 6,000 points of models painted for them, and even more waiting to be painted! How did this ghostly obsession start though?

TUTORIAL: The Quicksilver Dead

While I'm a big fan of the more traditional Nighthaunt color schemes, it's always cool to see some that are more unique. In the new Nighthaunt battletome we get two new sub-factions, each with a pretty cool color scheme, the Scarlet Doom and Quicksilver Dead. Today I'm going to show you how to paint the metallic Quicksilver Dead in an easy to follow step by step guide!

REVIEW: Nighthaunt Battletome - The Rules

The best army in all of AoS (totally not a biased opinion) has finally gotten its new book for AoS3, the Nighthaunt! Just like with my Maggotkin of Nurgle review, this ended up being pretty large, so I'm splitting it up into two reviews, one focusing on the rules, and the other on the lore and Path to Glory. Today we're going to take a look at all of the new army and Matched Play rules!

GALLERY: Jon Davies' Beasts of Chaos

Jon Davies' Beasts of Chaos

I've long been a fan of Jon Davies' (known as JP Miniatures online) fantastic Beasts of Chaos army. They're the perfect blend of dark and twisted and really embody the "True Children of Chaos" ethos that the Beasts profess. When I saw that he was posting up new pictures of them with some wonderfully thematic background I just knew I had to ask him if he'd like to show them off on here, and luckily he said yes!

REVIEW: Season of War - Thondia

Our first real narrative expansion for Age of Sigmar 3 has arrived in the form of Season of War: Thondia! AoS has always had "event" narrative books, like Malign Portents, Forbidden Power, or Broken Realms, but not nearly as many stand alone narrative supplements as 40k has been getting. To say I'm excited for this is a bit of an understatement. So, what lurks within the Realm of Beasts? Let's find out!

REVIEW: The Imperium Magazine - Issues 1-3

Living on the wrong side of the pond, I've been jealous of the partwork magazine subscriptions they've had in the UK for 40k and AoS these past few years. Well, it's finally our turn, with the Imperium Magazine subscription now available in the US! What exactly is the Imperium magazine and what can you expect from your subscription? Let's find out!

Tyler's Tools of the Trade

I assemble, convert, and paint a lot of models, as you may have noticed. Every now and then I get asked about what brush I'm using, or something along those lines, so I figured I would give everyone a quick rundown of some of my most commonly used tools while hobbying!

REVIEW: Redgrass Games Everlasting Wet Palette and Paint Handle

I've held off on getting a wet palette for quite awhile now, but when Redgrass Games offered to send me one to test out I immediately jumped at the chance. They also send me one of their painting handles and some of their brushes as well. So what did I think of everyone's favorite style of miniature painting palette?

REVIEW: Warhammer Underworlds Illusory Might Rivals Deck

Today I have my review of the new Illusory Might Rivals Deck, the first solo card pack for Harrowdeep. This is structured to be used as a Rivals deck by any warband, but all of the cards are normal universals as well, so it provides tons of options for other styles of decks too. Let's dive into the deep end of the pack and see what it contains!
