Mini of the Week 8-21-21

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Neave Blacktalon by Yisong Liu on Putty and Paint

With Warhammer+ coming out next week, and the AoS show that has been announced so far being titled Blacktalon, I thought it was fitting to feature the titular character. Neave Blacktalon has always been one of my favorite Stormcast sculpts, and her novel by Andy Clark was really good as well. Outside of the model from the Shadespire starter set, she was the first female Stormcast we saw, so it was a pretty huge moment. This version of her is spectacular. All of the non-metallic golds on her armor are spot on. The blends are so smooth, and it's reflecting all of the colors around her. I like how there are some lighting effects as well, with a blue light coming from in front of her, and an orange light from behind. Besides being an effective color combo on its own, it also lets the artist show off their skill.

I also like how they switched up her hair to be red instead of the usual black. It adds a bit more vibrancy to her. The overall style reminds me a lot of an oil painting more so than a miniature, which is really cool. The base is kept nice and simple, with the sole addition of a fallen Stormcast shield the only really bit of visual flair. It looks great though and frames the model so your attention is drawn to her.
