Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Black Templar by Artur on CMoN |
There's something just eternally cool about the Black Templars. They have such a classic look to them that really embodies the crusading warrior monk vibe of the Space Marines. As far as I can tell, the only change to this model is giving him a un-helmeted head, but it really adds a ton of character to him. Everything else about this that makes it great is just a really clean and expertly applied color scheme. The robes that the model has already fits the Templar aesthetic, as do the purity seals. I like the choice of using purple for the wax as it lets the red on his heraldry really stand out.
The base on this is great as well. Whenever I think of the Templars I think of desert basing. Not only does it contrast with their dark armor well, but it harkens back to Armageddon, which is where they first started getting their own models and rules. I can just picture this guy planting his standard in the ash wastes of the planet. The addition of a few skulls, and sparse rubble helps give it more of a sense of place, but retains the flatness of the base without building it up really tall like a lot of people like to do.
Be sure to check it out on Cool Mini or Not to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.
Until next time,
