Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every week I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Badab War Mantis Warrior by Kevin Kanner |
I'm always a fan of color schemes that use restricted palettes. Besides just looking awesome, it really forces you to think about your composition and the dark and light values of your colors. This Mantis Warrior is entirely green, but still reads easily with the different shades of green. First off, I really like the lighter, lime green used on the arms and face. It's such a vibrant color and is offset wonderfully by the darker, more muted green used on the rest of it. The painting itself is top notch with super smooth blends and just the right amount of weathering. The light reflections on the armor really give this model life.
I also like how even the base is just different shades of green, yet it's never murky or muddy looking. Each part of this model is easily identifiable. The beakie helmet works great on the primaris body as well. Everything about this model just works really well!
Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.
Until next time,
