Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday (oops, holiday Sunday post instead) I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Warplock Engineer by Melnikov Ivan "Nakatan" |
I've always been a fan of Skaven models, and this Engineer from the Island of Blood set has always been one of the best due to its simplicity. There hasn't been any conversion work done besides the scenic base and the shooting effect from the gun, but it doesn't need it. I really like how much they've focused on various lighting effects across this model. You have the non-metallic metals, the red lighting from the base, and the glows coming from the various warpstone trinkets. It's really a masterclass in lighting.
The reds and greens work very well together, with the rest of the color operating in more of a neutral area, being mostly various shades of brown and grey. I particularly like the effect they've achieved with the firing effect coming from the gun. The way the green glow is half hidden by the smoke looks very realistic, and also sickly and unnatural, as befitting a Skaven. The base does just enough to set the scene without distracting from the mini itself. Since it's pretty much all red glow as well you don't end up with any competing colors or details. Overall, there's really nothin to criticize about the model, it's wonderfully done.
Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.
Until next time,
Tyler M.
