Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Morathi by QianweiSHI on Putty and Paint |
Not only is this a wonderful rendition of this model, but I thought it was particularly appropriate with the teasers we've started to get for the Broken Realms: Morathi book. It's nice to see someone tackle the human form of her. The snake version is undeniably cool, but there's something so refined about this version. The pose radiates power and control without having to display her actual physical power. I think this is probably the best version of Morathi I've seen yet. I really like the choice to give her white hair. It contrasts wonderfully with the dark black and red clothing on her. There's so much to like about this mini, it's hard to know where to start. The overall color palette is ace with tons of colors being worked in all over the mini. You can see reds and greens in the sandstone of the stairs, and her hair has a lot of interesting yellows and blues subtly worked into them.
The most obvious example is the non-metallic metal gold. Not only is it a wonderful looking gold and one of the best example of NMM that I've seen, but it works in reflections of the red from her dress as well as green from what would be surrounding her. The overall paint job has such subtle blends and soft transitions, it's wonderful. I feel like the model has a softer feeling overall, which is not something we're used to seeing with minis, yet it's still sharp and defined. The painted mentioned this was part of a commission, so hopefully they'll be doing her giant snake form in this same style soon as well!
Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.
Until next time,
Tyler M.
