Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Blood Angel by Aythami Alonso Torrent in Putty and Paint |
I always enjoy seeing pieces of 40k art recreated with a mini and this is a pretty spot on recreation of the Blood Angels Codex cover. The conversion in this is top notch, with the posing looking natural and perfectly matching the codex art. Not only that, but they slightly resculpted the Marine helmet to more closely match the art. The paint job is spectacular as well. All of the colors, shading, and highlights matches what's in the original art and still works well on a 3D model. That's no easy thing to do.
I think one of my favorite parts about this though is how cleverly they made the display base. The background on this matches the art, but they didn't just do a rectangular background, which would have been the easiest thing to do. By making it slanted and matching the angle that the model is coming down you really get a sense of movement and speed. It's such a little thing but it adds so much to the model. Really a great job all around.
Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more views of it and show the artist some love if you like it.
Until next time,
Tyler M.
