Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Sister of Battle by Horlunov on Cool Mini or Not |
I was a big fan of the cinematic for the new edition of 40k, and seeing someone make dioramas off of it is awesome. There were four main elements to that cinematic, Guard, Marines, Sisters, and Necrons, and here we get two of those. I really like how they have her stepping on the head of one while slicing and dicing another one. This isn't a direct copy of a still from the cinematic, but it definitely captures the feel of it. There are a few things that feel a bit odd or stiff with the composition, but for the most part it really captures the feel.
The painting is great on these too. The non-metallic metals on the Necrons look a little flat, but work well on the Sister. The main focus of the Necrons is their green energy anyway, which does a great job of drawing the eye, providing some source lighting, and really getting across the damage done to the one taking the business end of that power sword. The Sister of Battle even has the correct tattoo under her eye to match her counterpart. All in all I think this is a really great tribute to the new 40k cinematic.
Be sure to check it out on Cool Mini or Not to see some more angles and show the artist some love if you like it.
Until next time,
Tyler M.
