Mini of the Week 4-10-20

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Lost Wanderer by Aksel ”Axefacepaints” Olsson
What a cool conversion! This has all the aesthetics of a John Blanche drawing and I love it. You really get the feeling of a post apocalyptic wanderer, but in a 40k setting, which I guess is kind of a redundant statement. The use of bits on this is inspired. I can make out some parts from the Mechanicus range, Blackstone Fortress, Tau, and some skulls. I think also some stuff from the Kharadron Overlords as well. The way it's all assembled though really makes it feel like its own unique model.

The painting on it is great as well. All of the colors are subdued and realistic, leaning into the post apocalyptic feel, yet still vivid enough to not become a grey-brown blob. I really like the pop of blue on the clothes and the overgrown green of the base. I think my favorite thing though is how the head, which is from a robot in Blackstone Fortress, has been painted like it's a skull. It makes it feel even more alien and out there. Everything is nice and smooth and crisp, with some wonderful weathering on top of all of it. This is the kind of grim dark aesthetic I like. Clearly grim dark, but still readable at a glance. The base is great as well, with a nice overgrown and abandoned feel to it. All around a great conversion.

Be sure to check it out on Putty and Paint to see some more angles and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
