2020 is finally coming to an end! This has been simultaneously the slowest and fastest year ever. Events around the world were cancelled amongst everything else horrible going on and going away, but here on Mengel Miniatures I tried my best to keep everyone as entertained as I could. To celebrate the end of this very strange and horrible year I thought I would do a recap of the top five posts from 2020!

White Dwarf Flashpoint: The Way Forward
The last three issues of White Dwarf have seen the launch of a new article series for 40k in the form of Flashpoint. This new article format takes all of the things I love about 40k and distills them down into a short monthly format, and I'm all for it!

Keeping the Narrative Alive During the Pandemic
I'm a huge fan of the narrative side of Warhammer, including the lore, books, and narrative hooks in games. Unfortunately, that last part is a little hard right now with the pandemic and in-person gaming either not allowed or not safe. What can we do in the meantime though to scratch that itch?

The Zero Backlog Army Project
Often times when I'm working on a new army I either have an army list I'm building towards or I have a huge pile of stuff waiting to get painted because I bought in bulk; or even both! With my Necrons I've actually approached them in a completely different manner, and to be honest, it's been very refreshing!

REVIEW: Broken Realms - Morathi
Broken Realms: Morathi is here and with it a huge shakeup to the story of the Mortal Realms. What diabolical plans does Morathi have and what else does this book bring to the game itself?

Warcry: Catacombs Review
It's been a little over a year since Warcry first came onto the scene and we now have our first major expansion in the form of Catacombs! This also acts as a sort of replacement starter set for the game since the old one has been discontinued. What new tricks does Catacombs bring to the game and what comes in the big new box? Lets dive into the dungeons and find out!

REVIEW: Codex Necrons
While I regularly review AoS Battletomes on here, it's been quite awhile since I've reviewed a Codex for 40k. The new Necrons are just too tempting to resist though, so I'll be staying on brand for this site by reviewing the Death-esque faction of the dark millennium.

REVIEW: Sons of Behemat
Stomping into the Mortal Realms, the largest AoS army ever is here, the Sons of Behemat. Well, the largest, and at the same time, smallest AoS army ever. So what does this gargantuan Battletome contain?

The Era Indomitus and Why I Love it
The Era Indomitus is upon us in 40k and with it one of the most exciting time periods for the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, at least in my opinion. The Horus Heresy is amazing as well, but I'm honestly more excited about the Era Indomitus than I have been for awhile with 40k.

REVIEW: Crypt Hunters
Crypt Hunters has been on my radar since it was first announced. I really like how GW is making these board game type games to be sold in places like Barnes and Nobel and Target. It makes the larger Warhammer universe even more accessible to new players, and also gives existing players new ways to play with their models. Crypt Hunters checks two major boxes for me. Nighthaunt and dungeon crawler.

Reigniting The Passion
Everyone has their favorite army, or maybe their favorite handful of armies, that they continually return to and add units to. For many years earlier in my hobby journey this was Space Marines for 40k. Now, as you may know if you frequent my site, that passion is for all the Death armies in AoS, but what happens when you get burnt out on it?

Indomitus Necrons Done!
I have a confession to make. It's very rare for me to actually finish an entire half of a starter set for Warhammer or 40k, but I've recently finished all of the Necrons from the Indomitus box! Clocking in around 1,000 points, it's pretty much half an army too.

REVIEW: Tesseract Glow Technical Paint
New paint releases from GW are one of the most exciting things to me. I love trying out new colors and techniques. Tesseract Glow is right up my alley, following in the legacy of Nihilakh Oxide as a technical paint that is great for glowing techniques. So, how does it measure up?

TUTORIAL: Making Broken Pillars
I'm a huge fan of making display boards for my armies, and so far two of them have included some kind of broken pillar. The broken pillar is a staple of both worlds of Warhammer in fact, and would be right at home in the scenery collection of any AoS or 40k player. Luckily there is a quick, and cost effective way to make these byproducts of a war torn environment.

Space Marine Chapter Hesitancy Syndrome
Whenever I start a new army I face a small dilemma before painting them; do I make my own color scheme or follow one of the studio color schemes? Having started many projects over the years I've fallen on both sides of the fence on this, but I sometimes feel guilty if I don't come up with my own color scheme.
