Ork Weirdboy by Matt Kennedy |
What a great use of an AoS model for 40k! The Ironjawz Shaman is so full of character and movement. The conversions on this guy are pretty minimal, but blend in nicely and really tie it into the 40k universe. The inclusion of scrap armor and strange technical doodads goes a long way towards making him feel like an Ork instead of an Orruk. I particularly like the Space Marine helmet appearing from the magical smoke. Is he conjuring forth a trapped soul or did he just kill a Space Marine with a psychic attack? Either way, it's very cool looking. The fact that he made one of the skulls hanging from his cloak into a servo skull is a nice touch as well.
The painting on this is top level as well. Everything is smooth and crisp and I really like the color choices. They're all very saturated and bright, which really makes this guy stand out. It definitely has an 'Eavy Metal vibe to me, which is always a plus in my book. He's managed to work in a bunch of different textures as well, from the smooth skin to the rusted metals and the scratched leather. It all goes a long way to making sure this mini has a bunch of interesting focal points and really helps separate out the different areas. The blue spot color of the psychic energy really helps the model pop and is carried though the model on through the bird beak, as well as the crystals on the base. All in all this is a really strong mini and a great use of cross synergy across the model lines. An Ork is an Orc is an Orruk after all.
Be sure to check out more views of the model on Official Golden Demon website and show the artist some love if you like it.
