Mini of the Week 11-3-17

Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.

Ahriman by Roberto Sirchia

I know I've done a 30k Ahriman model before for Mini of the Week, but I just really liked the look of this one. The colors are very standard, but painted to a very high degree. I love how much the contrast was pushed, with even lighter colors like the cream going to a fairly dark brown in the shadows. The red armor has a nice reflective look to it using purple for the shadows, which is a nice touch and helps tie it into the base. Even though the armor is reflective it's not over the top. It doesn't read as being a super polished metal, just a slightly reflective matte surface. This is especially noticeable when you look at it next to the non-metallic gold. He's really captured the reflections in this well, and I love the tone he's achieved. The glowing runes are nice and subdued too, so as not to steal attention.

I think one of my favorite things about this model though is the base. I'm not sure what it's made out of, but it looks awesome. It's natural and unnatural at the same time. The blue/teal/purple coloring of the rock frames the model perfectly and has a definite magical feel to it which is very fitting for Ahriman. The jutting shards of black rock coming out of the back are the perfect final touch. They mirror the movement of the model exactly and really help emphasize it. It almost has a crashing ocean wave feel to it, even though it's rock. Like a wave of magical energy buffeting Ahriman up. It's the perfect base for an already amazing looking mini.

Be sure to check out more views of the model on Putty and Paint and show the artist some love if you like it.

Until next time,

Tyler M.
