Welcome back to Mini of the Week, where every Friday I will find a miniature from around the web that exemplifies an aspect of our hobby and share it with you.
Iron Warriors by Ravenswood on Cool Mini or Not |
I've always liked the Iron Warriors scheme. It's very simple, but looks great and exemplifies their efficient nature. To paint an entire squad of Iron Warriors in non-metallic metals when they are 90% metallic is pretty intense. Sometime a NMM paint job can look a little too extravagant to me when a regular metallic paint job would have done, but not in this case. They have really captured the grittiness of the Iron Warriors, with everything being suitably dark and weathered.
All of the minute scratches on the armor helps break up the flat surfaces and adds more detail into the reflections they've painted. I really like their yellow too, with it's very rich and vibrant orange tones and the smooth blending they've achieved. They've really personalized each Space Marine too, through a combination of unique armor marks, and individual markings and chevron patterns. All of this is framed very well by the orangish brown basing, which frames the rather cold model with a nice warm tone that doesn't distract from the main focus. All of this would have been impressive enough on one model, and on an entire squad it's even more so. I don't know if this was a one off project, but I would love to see an entire Iron Warriors army painted this way.
Be sure to check out more views of the model on Cool Mini or Not and show the artist some love if you like it.
